NYC Holiday Gems
For many (especially those of us at Dina Mackney Designs), New York City is a perennial favorite during the winter months. Both tourists and natives alike enjoy the magic and holiday cheer that the city possesses from Thanksgiving Day all the way through to New Year’s. That being said, I think New York is the perfect place to spotlight for our Dina Mackney Gem Inspired Destinations this month! It offers a great backdrop for a number of semi-precious and fine jewelry pieces from my holiday collection.
Spending only one day in NYC isn’t nearly enough time to see all that the city has to offer, so plan on staying the night. It’ll give you a chance to catch your breath between traveling and allow you to truly experience the city. I recommend booking a room at the luxurious Mandarin Oriental hotel in Columbus Circle; its central location also allows for great shopping and sightseeing. Get your retail fix at stores like Bergdorf Goodman or visit the holiday market at Columbus Circle to shop wares from local vendors. Don’t forget to check out the lights at Rockefeller Center! End the night with dinner and drinks at the Mandarin bar, taking in the hotel’s breathtaking views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. Wear my Mother-of-Pearl and Ruby collar necklace with a classic LBD to make the evening extra special.
Start your second day in NYC with an adventure in the West Village; my Emerald Cut Rock Crystal Necklace on Blackened Links and Black Onyx Edged Cuff are the perfect companions to take you from day to night in style. Begin with brunch at everyone’s favorite French eatery, Buvette. With a casual atmosphere, affordable prices, and authentic Parisian fare, Buvette is not to be missed. Afterwards, bundle up in your fur, and head over to the Meatpacking District for a walk on the highline. For the fashionistas, this area is a major shopping destination, featuring ultra-cool brands like Theory, Vince, DVF, and Christian Louboutin. Quench your thirst after your major spree by having a drink at the Hotel Gansevoort. Then make your way to TriBeCa for a real treat: dinner at Marc Forgione. The namesake restaurant of the Iron Chef star serves amazing farm to table dishes and is a great way to end your holiday weekend in NYC.
I’d love to hear about your favorite holiday hotspots in NYC or any other city, so be sure to let me know using the hashtag #DinaMackney or #DMD on all your social media platforms. Enjoy the holiday season!
